In the light of the announcements by Southern Water and Crest Nicholson and the apparent inability to deliver infrastructure that had been committed, Nicholas Soames, the Member of Parliament for Mid Sussex, is calling on the Government to significantly reduce its housing targets for Mid Sussex, since it is clear that the infrastructure in Haywards Heath would simply not be able to cope with the proposed number of houses.
Nicholas Soames said; “I have always made it clear that I would not support any development that was not of a high quality and sustainable and that there had to be investment in the infrastructure before expansion could take place.
“I am therefore writing to the Minister of State for Housing to insist that in the light of these developments the Government readdress, at the earliest date, these already impossible targets to allow for sustainable future development.”
Mr Soames will be writing to the Minister of State early next week after consultation with the Leader of Mid Sussex District Council.
