SOAMES:"MID SUSSEX STATIONS MUST BE INCLUDED IN RAIL INVESTMENT PROGRAMME"

Mid Sussex MP, Nicholas Soames MP, has written to the Chief Executive of Network Rail to seek his assurance that Burgess Hill, East Grinstead and Haywards Heath stations will be included in Network Rail’s station investment programme.

Mr Soames said; “I have been in regular correspondence with John Armitt, Chief Executive of Network Rail about the appalling state of the stations in Burgess Hill, East Grinstead and Haywards Heath; all of which fall within the expanding commuter belt. I am therefore encouraged that Network Rail has launched a station investment programme which includes smaller stations across the network and I am seeking Mr Armitt’s assurance that the three stations will be included in the programme.

“As I have repeatedly warned the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Housing, it is unacceptable for Mid Sussex to have to swallow the Government’s overly ambitious housing targets when the infrastructure is already wholly inadequate.”
