Mid Sussex MP, Nicholas Soames, on behalf of the Support the Princess Royal Hospital Campaign has welcomed the decision of the West Sussex Primary Care Trust to suspend the process of the Fit for the Future in the light of the announcement that a merger is being looked at to bring the Royal West Sussex NHS Trust, which runs St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester, and the Worthing and Southlands Hospitals NHS Trust together.
Nicholas Soames said; “It is a great pity in my view that this was not made to happen a long time ago and a great deal of time and money could have been saved.
“In so far as the Princess Royal Hospital is concerned we have assurances from the Chief Executive of the West Sussex PCT, John Wilderspin, that the arrangements already announced will not affect the Princess Royal Hospital and the arrangements within the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
Commenting further on the news Mr Soames said; “We now look to the Trust continuing its excellent work in developing services at the Princess Royal Hospital and I have been assured both by its Chief Executive and the Chief Executive of the PCT that that work will continue.”
“It will be the wish of everyone locally that the Worthing and Chichester Hospitals come to a speedy conclusion and that the final result can be achieved in the best interests of all.”
