SOAMES'S QUESTION TO THE PRIME MINISTER ON 'MINISTERIAL CODE (CULTURE SECRETARY)'

Nicholas Soames (Mid Sussex) (Con): All sensible people will welcome the Prime Minister’s approach to this very serious matter, but does he agree that it would be quite wrong to rush to judgment and that he has a duty to follow a just and exhaustive process?

The Prime Minister: I do think this is right. Perhaps we can recognise, if we go back over 10 or 20 years in politics, that it is frankly the easiest thing in the world for a Prime Minister to stand at this Dispatch Box and say to a member of the Cabinet, “Oh, it’s all getting a bit difficult-off you go.” I think it is important to get to the facts-to get to the truth. That is what I believe in doing. It is called natural justice, and we should have some more of it.

DISSOLUTION OF PARLIAMENT

Parliament has been dissolved until after the General Election on 12th December and there are now no MPs. This website is for reference of my work when I was a Member of Parliament.

I am not seeking re-election.
