Nicholas Soames: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assurances he has received from the government of Israel since 15 June 2010 on its policy on the misuse of British passports. [41497]
Alistair Burt: MP; Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State: We have not yet received any formal assurances from the Israeli Government on this issue. The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for Richmond (Yorks) (Mr Hague), raised it with the Israeli ambassador to the UK in October 2010. He also raised it during his visit to Israel in November 2010 with Foreign Minister Lieberman. On both occasions he stressed that the misuse of British passports was unacceptable and should not happen again. Our ambassador in Tel Aviv also made this clear to the Israeli Government in November 2010.
