Nicholas Soames: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what the position of the Government is on the ownership of the Spratlys, the Macclesfield Bank and the Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea.

Mr Jeremy Browne (Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office): The status of disputed territory in the South China Sea is an issue for the countries disputing sovereignty to resolve. We welcome regional confidence building measures and commitments to find a peaceful resolution.
