FAIR FUNDING FOR SCHOOLS

17th January 2017

Statement issued by West Sussex MPs on Fair Funding for Education.

“West Sussex MPs pressed hard for fair funding for our schools and we are glad that a new formula is being introduced.  We have also been doing everything we can to make the case for improved funding in the interim.

"The new formula is currently being consulted on, and while the draft proposals improve funding for some of our schools, others lose out.  We recognise the pressures on school budgets and we want to help our schools make the best possible case for a fair deal.  That’s why we have arranged for Heads to meet the Schools Minister again with us in Parliament on 1st February.  The formula is open for consultation until 22nd March and everyone is welcome to contribute.

"The country still has a budget deficit and clearly there are many pressures on public spending.  Nevertheless, we will continue to work with heads to make the strongest possible case on school funding."

“This formula is critical as it will determine how school funding is allocated for years to come.   We are totally committed to getting the best possible result for local schools – the next step being the meeting with the Minister on 1st Feb.”

DISSOLUTION OF PARLIAMENT

Parliament has been dissolved until after the General Election on 12th December and there are now no MPs. This website is for reference of my work when I was a Member of Parliament.

I am not seeking re-election.
