Dear Editor,
I was very impressed by Jackie Shoebridge’s letter to your excellent paper in her capacity as Deputy Churchwarden at St Luke’s Church about a lot of the good that exists in the Stone Quarry area.
It is wonderful to hear that St Luke’s is so strong in its work and that its 50th anniversary was so magnificently supported by local people.
All this is good but there are major problems in Stone Quarry area and it has been my duty to represent the very many complaints that I have had about some of the bad behaviour and low level criminality that has done a great deal to undermine the quality of life for some local residents.
I am very glad to see the Police at last are taking a strong and proactive stand on these matters and I hope you can all look to a period when good order will be restored and those involved in this bad behaviour will play a helpful and useful role in the community.
As Jackie Shoebridge says most of the Stone Quarry folk work hard and do their best for the community but we cannot escape from the problems that exist and the Police must keep the Queen’s peace. Anti social behaviour and low level criminality will absolutely not be tolerated and must be dealt with with the full rigour of the law. Local people must hold the Police and the other relevant authorities to account to ensure that this is done.
Yours sincerely,
Nicholas Soames
