SOAMES LOBBIES MINISTER OVER PROPOSED CHANGES TO FIRE COVER AT EAST GRINSTEAD FIRE STATION

 28th November 2005

Dear Editor,

I write in response to Beverly Heasman’s excellent letter in the Courier last week to say that I wholly share her grave reservations about the proposed changes to fire cover at East Grinstead.

I am raising this matter with the Chief Fire Officer but I am also taking it up with Government Ministers since I believe this to be a thoroughly ill-advised and ill-conceived proposal and it is clear that this should be as much a part of the infrastructure argument as the many other issues that are connected with possible major developments in and around East Grinstead.

It seems to me the height of irresponsibility when there is a clear possibility of perhaps over 2500 new houses being built in East Grinstead to even consider cutting fire cover.

I shall make a full report back to my constituents in the usual way but they may be assured that this matter is receiving the detailed attention it clearly deserves.

Editor,
