DEFIBRILLATOR CAMPAIGN

Sir Nicholas Soames met with local campaigner Steve Morris to discuss the purchase and installation of more defibrillators in East Grinstead today, 14th July 2015.

Steve Morris started the Survival Can Be Shocking campaign after he suffered a cardiac arrest whilst working out on a treadmill at the King's Centre gym and was saved by staff trained in the use of a defibrillator.

Steve has already brought one debfibrillator to the town which is installed in Queen’s Walk and has now secured the money to buy a second for the High Street area, from the East Grinstead and District Lions Club. However, he needs one of the High Street traders to agree to “host” the modestly-sized unit on an outside wall of their premises where it would be accessible 24/7 for use by the public in an emergency.

After the meeting, Sir Nicholas said:

“I was delighted to meet this morning with Steve Morris, who has done so much to raise knowledge about the essential requirement for public access to defibrillators, I am looking forward to hearing soon about some new sites in East Grinstead and I will support Steve along the way.”
