Mid Sussex MP, Nicholas Soames, today commented on the decision of Post Office Ltd, to close four branches in Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill;
London Road, Burgess Hill
Lower Church Road, Burgess Hill
America Lane, Haywards Heath
Franklands Village, Haywards Heath
Nicholas Soames said; “The Post Office’s decision to close these four branches is a contemptible one and flies in the face of all public opinion and wishes. The consultation was clearly a sham and local people now face a further cut in the social architecture of our area.”
“These branches matter to them. In respect of each Post Office a very sound case was made for it remaining, and I am appalled by the Post Office’s actions which I consider to be in bad faith.”
Mr Soames said; “I call on the County Council, Business Link, the Town Councils of Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath and the District Council to come together to find a plan to retain these successful branches in the interest of the local community.
“If the Post Office is not going to pay any attention to the strongly held views of local people then why don’t they stop pretending about consulting and go ahead and close valuable local facilities and be damned by the consequences. The Government should be ashamed at initiating these proposals.”
