Sir -
Janan Ganesh’s emotional outburst against the Government’s immigration policy (‘Immigration policy undermines Cameron’s message’ – 15th January) simply takes leave of the facts. As the Government has repeatedly pointed out, there are no limits on transfers between international companies at a salary of more than £40,000. As for the annual “cap” of 20,700 on work permits it was, at last count, only about half taken up.
We yield to no one in our desire to see that British business can recruit the skills that it needs to compete in the global market place. There is clearly a need for the system to settle down and for the bureaucracy to respond more efficiently but salvos of this kind, while they may be satisfying to the author, are damaging to our country’s reputation as a place to do business. They are also inaccurate, to put it mildly.
Yours sincerely,
