Nicholas Soames has had a very busy few days in the constituency.
On Friday 10th October he met with the Chief Executive of the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, Sharon Colclough, to be briefed on the very extensive plans for this excellent and remarkable facility.
He then went to Haywards Heath to meet with the Leader of Mid Sussex District Council and Councillor Mrs Susanna Kemp, Cabinet Member for Planning and Environment, to discuss how best to frame local opposition to the Government’s outrageous new housing demands (proposed in the draft South East Plan).
Nicholas then went on to Burgess Hill to meet the Chairman of Governors, Pat Bailey, and the Headmaster, John Flower, at St Paul’s Catholic College, to discuss a particular difficulty that the school has with funding.
After a busy surgery in Burgess Hill, assisted by Councillor Mrs Pru Moore (Leylands Ward), Nicholas drove to Cuckfield to open the new Cuckfield Medical Practice – a really remarkable and excellent new facility for the thriving village community of Cuckfield.
He subsequently attended a political supper given by the Lindfield Branch of the Mid Sussex Conservative Association at the Bent Arms where Richard Ashworth MEP gave an outstanding address to a packed meeting about Europe and the elections which will take place in June next year.
On Saturday Nicholas officially opened Hapstead Hall in Ardingly – this is another outstanding community asset for which Nicholas says no praise is high enough for the effort and determination of local people to see it so beautifully restored.
In the evening together with Peter Ainsworth, Shadow Secretary of State for DEFRA and Member of Parliament for Surrey East, he addressed the West Grinstead and District Ploughing & Agricultural Society Annual Dinner at Steyning.
Nicholas Soames said; “This was a really busy weekend in one of the most beautiful parts of our country in beautiful weather and it was a great opportunity to meet some remarkable people and to share in such terrific events.”
