Nicholas Soames MP has pledged to fight for the future of newsagents in Mid Sussex.
His commitment came after it was revealed that traditional newsagents all over the country are being forced to shut up shop.
Developments in the news distribution industry have left most newsagents with no choice over who supplies them.
Many shop owners fear that the lack of competition will leave them with no alternative supplier and vulnerable to increasing costs.
Nicholas Soames MP threw his weight behind the campaign to save Britain’s newsagents some time ago when he visited shops in Burgess Hill, East Grinstead and Haywards Heath.
Mr Soames said; “Traditional newsagents are the backbone of our local community, many of them deliver a vital service and they are a friendly face that many people have come to rely on every day. I think it is very sad and indeed shocking that so many newsagents face such a struggle to survive.
“I am very happy to pledge my wholehearted support to newsagents in Mid Sussex and across the wider area.”
