SOAMES CHAIRS PUBLIC MEETING ON EAST GRINSTEAD AREA ACTION PLAN CONSULTATION

Nicholas Soames chaired a very well attended meeting on behalf of Mid Sussex District Council on the 19th May to kick off the formal consultation period.

Nicholas Soames commented; “No-one can be in any doubt that the development proposed at East Grinstead is very substantial indeed and it has caused the gravest concern and anxiety to local people and falls woefully short of the Government’s own standards on sustainability. The local infrastructure is totally inadequate for a development of this size and unless the Government makes a major investment in infrastructure the scale of what is proposed is wholly unacceptable.

No-one can be in any doubt about the anxieties and concerns expressed at the meeting and officers at the District Council and the Leader and Deputy Leader were both present who have noted this.

I urge people now to make individually formal and detailed representations to the District Council before the 3rd July so that their views are taken properly into account in what will be a detailed consultation.

I shall be making representations to the Council, to Ministers and in Parliament which I did for example on Thursday 18th May to the Leader of House. I shall certainly be having a debate on the floor of the House of Commons.”

Notes

Consultation runs from 22nd May – 3rd July 2006
