PRIVATE HEALTH CARE: NURSES

15th October 2018

Sir Nicholas Soames: To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what plans he has to expand the role of qualified nurses in primary care.

Steve Brine, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health and Primary Care: The General Practice Nursing (GPN) Ten Point Plan was launched in July 2017 consisting of £15 million of investment from the General Practice Forward View funding allocation to support actions to address workforce challenges and support improvements in general practice nursing.

As part of the implementation of the GPN Ten Point Plan, NHS England has commissioned work to set out the core capabilities of nursing advanced clinical practitioners and this framework will provide a solid foundation for nursing staff to broaden their scope of practice in the future.

As of March 2018, there were 491 more full time equivalent nurses working in general practice compared to September 2015.
