Local Conservative MPs from Sussex and Surrey met Transport Minister, Derek Twigg MP, on Tuesday to secure the future of the Gatwick Express.
The four MPs, Peter Ainsworth (Surrey East), Charles Hendry (Wealden), Francis Maude (Horsham), and Nicholas Soames (Mid-Sussex) have demanded that there should continue to be a high-speed service to the station, following the current review of the train services to Gatwick.
In their meeting with the Minister they emphasised that, in addition to the airport traffic, many local people use the Gatwick Express to commute to London and any down-grading in the service would cause increased pressure on other parts of the rail and road network.
The Minister is expected to make a final decision on the future of the service later in the year.
