HORSES: DISEASES

Nicholas Soames: To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs whether (a) contagious equine metritis and (b) equine viral arteritis are to remain notifiable diseases under the Animal Health Act 1981. [159549]

Mr Heath, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food: There are no plans at present to delist any notifiable diseases, though we are keeping this under review. We will, of course, work closely with the industry on this and consult on any potential changes. Our priority will remain the safeguarding of human and animal health and to protect trade and wider society.
