[holding answer 16 January 2012]: Design and Technology is currently a foundation subject within the national curriculum and is compulsory at Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. The current review of the national curriculum is considering the future status of the subject. Provisional figures show that in academic year 2010/11 there were 226,400 entries at GCSE in the subject.
