SOAMES AND HENDRY BACK FAG AT PUBLIC INQUIRY

Local MPs Nicholas Soames and Charles Hendry have made a joint submission to the Public Inquiry objecting in the strongest possible terms to the use of the Freshfield Lane Brickworks site for landfill disposal.

Their submission summarises their profound and long-standing objections on behalf of their constituents to this wholly unsuitable site which is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The local MPs have pledged their wholehearted support for the decision taken by West Sussex County Council to remove the site from the former Waste Local Plan.

Mr Soames said; “In our written submission to the Planning Inspector we have set out the grounds on which we believe the application contravenes the Policy Planning Guidance.
We have worked closely with the Freshfield Lane Action Group for six years and the professionalism of their campaign is reflected in the evidence which they have presented to the Inquiry.”

Mr Hendry said; “Nicholas and I fully understand the need to identify sites for long-term disposal of waste and the difficulties which face local councils in identifying such sites, but we are resolutely convinced that a development at the Freshfield Lane Brickworks site would be dangerous, inappropriate and would fly in the face of all stated aims for sustainable development.”

The Public Inquiry is scheduled to commence on the 30th January until the 2nd March.
