Working For Mid Sussex
My time is divided between representing local people at Westminster in all the activities of Parliament and working on their behalf in the constituency. I carry out the majority of my constituency engagements on Fridays and at the weekends. These range for example from meetings with the Chief Executive of the Hospital Trust and regular meetings relating specifically to the Princess Royal Hospital and our local campaign in support of the Hospital; to visits to local companies, schools and organisations and holding my constituency advice surgeries. I undertake on average two or three speaking engagements a week in London, Sussex and around the country for both Party and national organisations.
Seminars…..
I organise regular seminars in my constituency to discuss issues of concern for local people in Mid Sussex. The aim of the meetings is to bring together representatives from a range of authorities and organisations and local people to debate important matters of public policy in a local setting. I continue to lobby Ministers and all the relevant authorities over these important issues.
Seminars have included:-
Infrastructure Requirements – How can we ensure that Mid Sussex receives a fair deal on infrastructure investment to support the Government’s over ambitious housing targets?
Carers’ Seminar – A question and answer session for carers.
Villages – How can we improve amenities and the quality of life in our Mid Sussex villages?
Care of the Elderly – How can we better deliver services locally for older people?
Planning Seminar – What can be done to make all this Government imposed housing development in Mid Sussex bearable and sustainable?
Delegations...
To ensure that the interests of my constituents are represented at the highest level I lead delegations from the constituency to lobby Ministers over important local issues. I have led delegations over the downgrading of services at the Princess Royal Hospital; the funding of social services; the housing proposals for East Grinstead; the local rail service and the housing targets within the South East Plan.
Surveys...
I conduct frequent surveys to seek the views of my constituents on a range of local issues such as rail services, post office closures and the quality of life in our villages. If you would like to obtain a copy of previous surveys please contact my office on 020 7 219 4143.
