  Local Issues

I work closely with residents’ associations, organisations, charities and constituents on a range of projects and campaigns in the constituency. Below I have highlighted just a few examples to give you an idea of some of my interests and priorities.

Campaigning to save our local NHS services and for more resources – for further information please click here.

Save Our Post Offices logoPost Office closures – fighting to protect access to vital services for local people in Burgess Hill, East Grinstead and Haywards Heath and across the rural areas.

Protecting our green fields – I have vigorously fought against the endless Government proposals to build on greenfield sites and open areas throughout Mid Sussex.

Burgess Hill and East Grinstead Business Parks Associations – working closely with the appointed co-ordinators to represent the views of local businessmen and women.

Campaigning against the Government's legal aid proposals - working with local solicitors to press the Government to reconsider its proposals to ensure that the system provides good quality legal services, value for money and fair access to justice.

Funding support and advice for local bodies such as the YMCA and the Ashenground Community Centre Trust in Haywards Heath.

Waste Plan – I have worked closely with the Freshfield Action Group (FAG) and West Sussex County Council to highlight the unsuitability of the Freshfield site in Horsted Keynes for landfill disposal.

I am delighted that after a six year long campaign the Planning Inspectorate dismissed Cory Environmental and Freshfield Lane Brickworks’ appeal.
