IRAQ HISTORIC ALLEGATIONS TEAM

7th March 2017

Sir Nicholas Soames: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many members of the Royal Navy Police are working as part of the Iraq Historic Allegations Team; and what duties those members have.

Mike Penning, Minister of State for the Armed Forces: There are 11 members of the Royal Navy Police working on Iraq Historic Allegations Team (IHAT) investigations. IHAT investigations are conducted under the statutory framework of the Armed Forces Act 2006, and while members of the Royal Navy Police attached to IHAT carry out a range of duties they have the particular role of exercising functions which under the Act can only be exercised by Service Police.
